Very often a large number of documents relating to the same victim exist, in which the names of persons, institutions and places are spelled in a variety of ways. This problem can be solved by ITS staff based on their professional expertise and with the help of computer software.

ITS Inventory Database

ITS preserves over 21,000 archival or historical collection units. Taking the inventory registers yearly drawn up by ITS as basis, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (» Website) has created a database and placed it at ITS' disposal.

All archival or historical collection units inventoried - a description of each stock included - can be called up in this database. Consulting the database, you may find out whether ITS keeps archival or historical collection units on definite camps, subjects, groups of persecutees, time lines, amount or contents of source texts etc.
