Archives’ Day

A look into the archive is offered to all interested persons on 6th March 2010

The International Tracing Service (ITS) invited the public to Archives’ Day held on Saturday, 6th March 2010. The countrywide event organised by the Association of German Archivists (VdA) took place for the fifth time. On this day, archives introduced themselves to the public elaborating on the key theme “Dem Verborgenen auf der Spur” (Finding traces of what is latent).

ITS opened its doors to an interested public on Saturday, 6th March 2010
between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. 243 visitors came to have a look at the archives.

The programme included:  

  • Theme-related guided tours (20 minutes) for the concentration camp, forced/slave labour and displaced persons (DP) fields 
  • Projector presentation on victims’ lives  
  • Reading corners material and books on the themes of the archive included
  • Presentation of the database and finding aids
  • Exemplification of the treatment of humanitarian requests
  • Information boards on digitization, conservation, description and indexation as well as use of the documents

Following a round through the archive, ITS offered the opportunity to talk and exchange opinions on the second floor of its main building where coffee, cake and soft drinks were served. For more information: VdA - Verband deutscher Archivarinnen und Archivare e.V.
