ITS Commemorative Work

Using its archives the International Tracing Service (ITS) provides information on the victims of National Socialism to institutions or individuals carrying out commemorative work.

From December 2000 to November 2003, the ITS also collaborated with the Federal Archives on the publication of the second, enlarged edition of the register of persons who fell victim to the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany from 1933-1945.

ITS documents were examined to ascertain whether the persons named by the Federal Archives were victims of Nazi tyranny. They also examined any requests made for information on the fates of the victims.

Remembering the victims

The ITS helps to keep alive the memory of the victims. In many cities and communities people wish to commemorate the victims of Nazi tyranny. The International Tracing Service’s collection can often help in naming the victims for books of remembrance, memorial plaques and so-called commemorative cobblestones.
