Contents of the archives

The documents in the ITS archives dating from the National Socialist era and the immediate post-war era extend to a length of 26,000 metres. Essentially, the ITS archives are divided into the three main areas incarceration, forced labour and post-war period.

Wallets of concentration camp prisoners in the archives of the International Tracing Service (ITS) in Bad Arolsen. There are still around 3,400 envelopes with effects, mainly wallets from Dachau and Neuengamme.

Correspondence filesThe correspondence files are being digitized since January 2010.

Correspondence files

The correspondence with victims of Nazi persecution, their family members and governmental organisations is recorded in the correspondence files (about three million T/D cases (tracing/documents)).

Digitisation of the archivesDigitisation serves the protection of the original documents.

Digitisation of the archives

The ITS is digitising its archives since 1998 and with full effort since 2006. About 90 per cent of the original documents have been scanned. Digitisation of the three million correspondence files started in 2010.
