Ministry Official Roik Paid Visit to the ITS
Ministry Official Dr Michael Roik, Head of the section “history and memory” with the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (FGCCM), has paid a visit to the International Tracing Service (ITS) in Bad Arolsen. Early in 2012, the Federal Government Commissioner took over the responsibility for the funding of the ITS from the Federal Interior Ministry. “Reason enough for me to come and get to know the ITS”, said Roik.
The Official had a look at the voluminous archival holdings of the ITS and was acquainted with the present-day tasks of the tracing service, such as the treatment of requests, the building up of the department for research and education and the tasks of digitising, conserving and describing the documents.
“This institution is of outstanding importance considering Germany’s history and its own internationality. Bearing this knowledge in mind, the FGCCM assumes responsibility of its mandate“, said Roik. Within the competence of the section for history and memory at the FGCCM fall the German memorial sites, important historical museums, the German National Library and the German Federal Archives.
