Conference: Tracing and Documenting Victims of Nazi Persecution: History of the International Tracing Service (ITS) in Context
The International Tracing Service (ITS) welcomes you to take part in the international conference “Tracing and Documenting Victims of Nazi Persecution: History of the International Tracing Service (ITS) in Context” from 8-9 October 2018 in Bad Arolsen (Germany).
To this day, the consequences of Nazi persecution were and are manifold: the loss of relatives, the search for a new home, serious physical or mental injuries, existential problems, social support and recognition, but also continued exclusion or discrimination have shaped the experiences and memory of those who were once persecuted, their relatives, and society as a whole. In this field, tracing bureaus, archives and others played an important role which so far has not been critically researched in detail. Against this background, the ITS will host an international conference looking back on more than seven decades of tracing and documenting victims of Nazi persecution. The event marks the 70th anniversary of search bureaus from various European states meeting with the recently established ITS in Arolsen, Germany, in the autumn of 1948.
One aim is to discuss new findings on the history of the ITS in a broader context.
