The Notebook of Albert Wernick

“Already the name of Hitler is on everybody‘s lips and although the large majority of people don‘t respect him yet, the day is near when the words of my friend Horst Wessel will come true: ‘Soon Hitler‘s banners will fly above the streets, our servitude won‘t last much longer.‘“

The lines are taken from Albert Wernick‘s notebook that he wrote between 1929 and 1938; after the Dachau trials it ended up in the archives of the ITS. Wernicke was arrested by the Gestapo in December 1942 and taken to the Dachau concentration camp. A Kapo and SS stooge he was particularly feared by the other prisoners.
